HDS-N series · oscilloscope + multimeter

A 2-channel scope and a 1000 V multimeter, in one hand

The OWON HDS2062M-N is the 60 MHz model of OWON’s HDS-N handheld range: a 2-channel, 60 MHz digital storage oscilloscope sampling at 1 GS/s and a 3¾-digit (4000-count) multimeter in one rubber-armoured housing, with an FFT spectrum view on top. The multimeter has its own input jacks and measures up to 1000 V DC, 750 V AC and 10 A.

A 3.7-inch, 640 × 480 colour screen, auto-scale, 20 automatic measurements and edge, video and alternate triggering cover everyday service work. The 7.4 V Li-ion battery runs it for about six hours, and USB takes waveforms and meter readings to a PC.

Why the HDS2062M-N

Two instruments you would otherwise carry separately, with the controls that make a handheld quick to use.

Oscilloscope + 4000-count meter

Switch from a two-channel waveform view to a 3¾-digit multimeter with its own 10 A, mA, COM and V/Ω/C jacks: voltage to 1000 V DC / 750 V AC, current to 10 A, resistance to 40 MΩ, capacitance, diode and continuity.

OWON HDS2062M-N auto-scale screen with two channels locked on

One-key auto-scale

Press Autoscale and the scope sets trigger, vertical scale and timebase from the type, amplitude and frequency of the input. Two channels are measured on screen straight away — useful when you do not know what is on the pin yet.

Edge, video & alternate trigger

Alternate trigger holds two unrelated signals stable at the same time, each on its own trigger. Adjustable trigger sensitivity rejects noise, so a waveform that jitters on screen locks on.

6-hour Li-ion battery

A 7.4 V, 3500 mAh rechargeable Li-ion pack gives about six hours of use away from mains; the supplied adapter runs it from 100–240 V AC. Weight 645 g, 115 × 180 × 40 mm.

Internal lithium-ion power and a rugged case, so the instrument works away from a bench and a mains socket.

The measurement often has to happen where the problem is — up a mast, in a plant room, in a vehicle. An instrument that has to be carried to the fault and run for a few hours changes what can be diagnosed on the day.

In practice: Tracing interference across a site on foot, taking readings at each location without hunting for power.

The HDS-N series

Other models in the HDS-N series

All four HDS-N models share the 3.7-inch VGA screen, the 4000-count 1000 V multimeter, the 6K record and the 6-hour battery. Bandwidth and sample rate are what change: the HDS1022M-N samples at 100 MS/s, the 60, 100 and 200 MHz models at 1 GS/s.

Newer OWON handhelds

If you do not need the 1000 V DC meter range or the larger VGA screen, OWON’s newer pocket-size platforms add a waveform generator and a higher-count meter.
